A trip off the road most travelled

We arrived in Hue and were all prepared to do a little sightseeing. Rent a bicycle and head out into the countryside. Those plans came to a crashing end very quickly when the clouds rolled in and it started to rain.

Can anyone see this?

hmmm...I updated my blog to the new beta blogger version. It was supposed to make things faster and easier and now I can't seem to access the blog and I have been told by a few people they can't see it either? Maybe it is just a Vietnam thing?

Left Hoi An today (our pocket books are thanking us), sent a monster package (20kg) filled with custom made shoes and clothes home which should arrive in 2-3 months. Will have to tell mom to bend at the knees when she goes to the post office to pick that baby up. Ha.

Rained today, which was ok as we were on a bus for 4 hours travelling north. Now in Hue...and from what I have seen of it at night it looks pretty nice.

However on our arrival, as usual we were accosted the moment we stepped off the bus by a bunch of people wanting us to stay at their hotel, eat at their restuaran, go on their tour. After a while it gets pretty tiring and it usually me that tears a strip out of one of them to get rid of them as they just don't take no for an answer. They will walk along side you telling you about their guesthouse. You tell them no thank you, not interested...and they just persist and persist. It is infuriating. Well today, Debbie (who couldn't give a mean look to save her life) actually scared one of them away. She threw her hand up, glared at him and said "Don't talk to me." She even managed to scare me a little. It was hilarious. He scurried away rather quickly and the peace and quiet was quite pleasant until I burst out cackling.

2 million dollar mountain

In Chao Doc, Vietnam there is a place called 2 Million dollar mountain. It is this mountain of huge boulders where the Americans invaded Vietnam. Apparently they spent $2million and about 5 years trying to capture it. They managed to capture it, had it for a month, the vietnamese attacked and the americans lost control of it in under 3 hours. We travelled there by motorbike and took a tour. It was really powerful. Walking through the tunnels underneath you could imagine the terror those poor american soldiers must have been feeling because there are so many places for the vietnamese to hide. There were marks on the boulders from the bombs. These shots are from our ride there.

You could also go and shoot machine guns and stuff like there...here is a shot of Deb in action.
